The image of the village at the turn of the 1980s on the example of the Małolepsza family from the village of Gudzewo. They manage a few hectares, the older children left for the city, they settled in, one of the sons even became a lawyer. Twenty-year-old Bolek stayed with his parents, a boy willing to "fight and drink", wandering with his peers as crude as he was, lonely, because most of the girls fled to the city.

The protagonist of the film is Józek Mikuła, a "peasant worker" who runs a small farm with his mother and makes a living as a truck driver at a nearby cement plant. When one day he wins a million in a toto-lottery, news of his unexpected fortune spreads rapidly through the village. He takes the boy and returns to Targowek.
The owner of an ice cream parlor in a coastal town is murdered. The investigation is conducted by platoon leader Rogowski, but soon he is joined by Lieutenant Joanna Szczęsna from the voivodeship headquarters.
