Three male native speakers endlessly correct a woman's foreign pronunciations of English, French and Polish. It seems that the absolute pronunciation of the national texts is represented at its best in the cacophony of three languages overlapping female and male recitations of the anthems. These nonsensical exercises of the mouths problematize the meaning of certain politically charged words.
"ABC" consists of four objects: two bureaucratic looking chairs, one 27" TV monitor and a two meter long metallic table. The chairs are placed at the shorter ends of the table. While one chair is emptied by it's interlocutor, the other is occupied by a large TV monitor. The eleven minute long video displays three close up images of the mouth that in a deliberately exaggerated manner pronounce three uncanny stories.
A naked female figure faces the wall and hits it monotonously with towels. Formally the video refers to the photographic series showing prostitutes from the red light district in New Orleans made in 1912 by the American artist E.J. Bellocq. These photographed figures often turned away from the lens and had their faces blurred or veiled. Araya’s use of primary color also refers to her artistic beginnings as a painter.

As I am making my "beautifully threatening" instrument for the straight and correct (ortho) pronunciations of the words (orthoepy) right here and now, I realize that I am setting up conditions for the war. This war will be fought for the sake of "just words" and it will certainly require proper arms of justice - an elongated iron tongue and a defensive helmet." - Kinga Araya
"The Peripatetic Device, two iron hemispheres with imprints of my feet in the middle of each, proposes another way of trying to understand one of the most perplexing human phenomenon - the leitmotif of walking and displacement. While standing on two balancing iron hemispheres and attempting to play the violin, I revisit the present and past memories that sculptured my body and my mind.
